Goal:

Heraeus was looking to upgrade their lighting to LED at their large facility in St. Paul, and the exterior portion of the building was a huge part of the upgrade. The existing HID outdoor lighting was inefficient with poor light output and ongoing maintenance concerns. Heraeus runs 24 hours a day with employees going in and out at all times of the day, so improving security was very important as well. Premier opted for new LED fixtures that would transform the location and save as much energy as possible.

Results:

After installing new LED fixtures in place of the previous HID, Heraeus’ outdoor lighting improved 25% while reducing energy by 72%. One of the most important factors in exterior lighting is optics, as light needs to be emitted efficiently and not wasted lighting areas that shouldn’t be lit. Not all LED fixtures are able to do this productively as many are just a blob of light, but the new LED fixtures at Heraeus utilized TIR optics which allow precise control of the lights to exactly where it needed to go.
