Smiths Metals High Ambient Temp Retrofit Case Study

Customer Profile:

Smith Metal Products in Chisago, MN employs over 50 years of molding experience and has an extensive range of material systems designed to offer the utmost flexibility of any MIM/CIM producer. Smith is a division of Plastic Products Company, Inc. which is one of the largest Employee owned molders in the United States. Since 1957 our company has offered highly engineered solutions to customers manufacturing needs.

Goal:

Smith Metal Products had been using fluorescents, HID and incandescents throughout their building and were looking to upgrade this to an LED system that would offer more light and energy savings. This included some difficult environments that had a high ambient temperature so any LED option would have to last in this scenario.

Results:

Premier retrofitted the entire facility, including replacing HID wallpacks with new LED wallpacks and linear fluorescents with Type B LED tubes for long-term energy and maintenance savings. In the production environment, they decided against LED Tubes and instead opted for new LED highbay fixtures that had a high ambient temperature to ensure they would last in this rigorous application.  Overall, energy was reduced by overall 50% with a payback on the project set in just over a year.
