When it comes to office lighting, Premier Lighting has you covered! We have retrofitted our own office space a few times since LED’s inception and learned quite a bit along the way. There are a ton of options for your indoor office lights and we are happy to sift through them with you.
Most office systems involve 2×2, 1×4 or 2×4 recessed fixtures of some kind. Maybe you have the style with an old acrylic lens. There are numerous ways to retrofit these to LED and a lot of it will come down to the shape of your current light fixtures.
Are they are in the right place and in good shape? It may be worth retrofitting them to LED T8 tubes if so. The most reliable way is to go with a Type B ballast bypass LED T8 because then you don’t have to worry about ballast compatibility (simply bypass the ballast and wire direct). Plug and Play Type A LED T8 options are out there if you just want to pop an LED T8 tube in and start achieving energy savings, but you must ensure the LED T8 tubes you use are compatible with your existing fluorescent ballast. Or go with a Type AB Combo LED which would allow you to run off the existing ballast and then bypass the ballast and wire direct once the ballast dies off.
A popular light you see in office settings is a 2×2 or 2×4 LED retrofit kit. They provide an upgraded look along with energy savings, plus installing these retrofit kits is very simple and much loved by contractors. 0-10V dimming comes standard with most of these as well. Depending on your space, it might make sense to add troffer fixtures or replace ones you have, which case you can always buy new LED centerbasket fixtures that will match the look of a centerbasket retrofit kit.
Another common look is a flat panel or LED backlit panel. These deliver widely-dispersed light with a sleek look in all the common sizes; 2×2, 2×4 and 1×4. Surface mount or flange-mount.
Added controls continue to be a big thing in these applications. Motion sensors have been common for years but now with LLLC (luminaire level lighting controls), it has become easy to control each fixture or a set of fixtures. This results in added savings and customization which some at your office may love.
Be sure to look into any rebates in your area to determine if any of these options are eligible for rebates from your power company.
