Goal:
After many years of using and maintaining fluorescent lighting, Kellington was interested in lighting that would save energy, reduce maintenance costs and improve light levels.
Assessment:
The existing facility was littered with continuous rows of fluorescent lighting and a few HID fixtures. The fluorescent T8 fixtures were becoming a maintenance hassle, as ballasts and lamps began dying out and the remaining lamps were losing light output over time.
Solution:
After running photometric reports, it was determined that we could replace the continuous rows of fluorescent fixtures with spaced-apart LED fixtures. This plan met Kellington’s goal of saving energy, reducing maintenance costs and improving light levels.
Results:
Huge amounts of energy and maintenance savings were realized from this retrofit thanks in part to the optimization done by Premier. Amazingly, after reducing the number of fluorescent fixtures by over 80%, the light levels increased from an average of 18-23 footcandles to 35-50 footcandles throughout. In addition, the new lighting will save over $10,000/year in energy savings, reduce maintenance costs and a sizable portion of the cost was covered in rebates by the utility company. All of the project goals were met with a payback of around 4 years.
