Premier Lighting Case Study: Senior Housing Chapel Lighting

Customer Profile:

Ecumen Parmly LifePointes in Chisago City, MN has been serving senior citizens since 1904 when a 23 acre site was acquired and an 18 room senior home was built. Since those early years, the campus has grown to include everything from independent town home living to memory care, and a state of the art wellness center. The on-site Parmly Chapel is a key component for residents and visitors to share in their spiritual lives.

Goal:

In 2012, Premier Lighting completed a retrofit of the Lakeview apartment complex from T12 fluorescent to T8 fluorescent lighting. Recently we were asked to review LED options for the Chapel to improve lighting for church services and to provide energy savings.

Solution:

Premier reviewed the current lighting situation, which was comprised of 120W PAR 38 track lighting. The existing system produced 15-18 footcandles. Premier proposed new track lighting with 17W PAR 38 LED lamps and the 32W T8 side lighting was changed to 15W Type B LED T8 lamps. Following approval of the project, Premier coordinated the entire project from ordering, installation, and rebate paperwork.

Results:

The outcome of the project was an increase in light levels to approximately 65-70 footcandles, resulting in an energy savings of nearly $1700 annually (81%) for a 1.3 year ROI. Further, the rebates captured 39% of the project cost. The greatest outcome was the residents now have a better opportunity to participate in services through the improved lighting!
