Preferences change fast in the lighting industry and one thing we are seeing is an added focus on warmer color temperatures for outdoor lighting. Many of the early LED retrofit bulbs were in 4000K Cool White or most often 5000K Daylight, both of which provided a stark contrast in look to the HID lamps of yore that emit a more yellowish/amber color. These retrofits resulted in an appearance of more light output just based on color temp alone.
However as more research has been done by folks like the International Dark Sky Association we are finding that many of those bright white Gen 1 LED fixtures/bulbs have resulted in an excess of light pollution and consequently negative impacts on humans, animals and the environment in general. With this awareness becoming more prevalent in combination with many of those early generation HID LED lamps burning out, there has been a movement in outdoor lighting to go with 2700K or warmer lighting. The tricky part is most manufacturers only go down to 3000K Warm White which is still a fair bit whiter than legacy HID bulbs.
