Minnesota Clean Lighting Bill – CFL / Linear Fluorescent Ban Upcoming!

fluorescent T8 tubes soon to be banned!

Another year is almost in the books and in the lighting world, that means the sun is setting on CFL’s and linear fluorescent in some states! We wrote about the fluorescent lighting ban last year and have had to update it a few times already, as more states passed upcoming bans on fluorescent lighting technology.

Here in Minnesota, the sale of screw-in CFL lamps will be banned on 1/1/2025. Fortunately thanks to efficiency and low cost of LED screw-ins, CFL screw-ins have pretty much gone by the wayside naturally at this point. The big hit will be on 1/1/2026 when the more common pin-based CFL’s will be banned as well as linear fluorescents. For all the details, you can check out the Minnesota Clean Lighting Bill here.

Our best advice is to have a long-term plan with your lighting system! That might be stocking up on CFL’s and linear fluorescent to buy yourself some time to get an LED system installed. You may also wish to just convert to LED as soon as possible which would be wise as there are numerous rebate options out there that can make turning to LED a cinch. You may even find yourself with an awesome new lighting control system that will garner more rebates and energy savings!
