Replacing Dotted LED in Cooler Doors to 5′ Frosted LED T8 Bulbs

Sun Empire foods is an ethnic grocery store with huge offerings of asian foods, spices and much more! They have numerous locations and their new store in Brooklyn Center opened up in 2024 and has been a huge hit within the community.

Goal:

The new Sun Empire location was previously a Walmart that had mostly already been retrofitted to LED with Gen1 LED lights in the mid-late 2010’s. This meant many of these older generation LED’s were starting to lag in performance and in acquiring the new building, they wanted to give it an updated look and replace lights that were out.

Results:

One of the main areas of focus was the cooler doors as they were looking for a reasonable LED solution in replacing the hundreds of cooler lights that they had throughout the store. Their existing Gen1 LED cooler lights were the clear, diode-showing style which were full of glare and fading in output. In lieu of suggesting new LED cooler fixtures, Premier suggested a custom step bracket that would allow them to retrofit the cooler doors with 5′ ballast bypass linear LED T8 lights. The old dotted LED-diode style cooler lights were replaced with 5′ frosted LED T8 lights in 5000K to brighten up the coolers while saving on energy from the less-efficient, early-gen LED cooler lights.
