You would think after all this time with LED in the market that all the different lamp and base types would be covered and easy to find. But there are always new applications that we run across that provide a challenge, yet with a little research we are able to find solutions.
Take a halogen PAR36 for example. Read that again; not a PAR38 which is common but a PAR36! Halogen PAR36 lamps operate on 12V with a G53 screw terminal base. Sounds tricky to replace right?
Come to find out Halco has an LED PAR36 line that has several different lights available to meet the different halogen wattage equivalencies. The multi-purpose base allows for it to work for slip-on or screw terminal connections, meaning this LED PAR36 can replace an AR111 or PAR36 halogen.
Other relevant specs include an IP67 wet rating which protects the lamp from temporary immersion. This is important because often times these lamps are used in fountains, pools, and other landscape/accent lighting applications where they are exposed to the elements. Wide flood beam angle to maximize spread and 2700K color to match that of the halogen source. 10-15V input voltage range to allow it to replace those 12V halogens. Beautiful dimming as well.
In terms of wattage equivalencies, the 4.5W LED replaces 20W halogen PAR36s, the 6.5W LED replaces 35W halogens, the 12.5W replaces 50W halogens, and the 17.5W replaces 75W halogens! Retrofitting to LED will result in 80% energy savings on these lights not to mention an improvement of light levels.
The best part is, these LED PAR 36 lamps are rated for 40,000 hours of use with a 5 year manufacturer warranty. Given the applications these PAR36 halogens are often found in, just the time and cost of maintenance can be huge. Many times we find that the customer has been without these lights for some time, what-with the halogens becoming discontinued and harder to find.
