It has long been known that some of the biggest rebates when retrofitting to LED are when using a Type C setup. On that note, GE Current may have created the easiest method for converting fluorescent fixtures to a Type C LED system.
The technology has to do with utilizing a hybrid driver & Type A LED T8 tube setup to make a UL verified Type C system. The LED drivers are basic non-dimmable drivers and must be powered with a compatible Type A LED T8 from GE Current. They come in 2-lamp or 4-lamp configurations.
The GE Current Type A LED T8 tubes that work on these drivers come in 2′, 3′, and 4′. Various wattage options in the 4′, from 10W to 14W or 15W. All the lamps are rated for 70,000 hours other than the 4′ 14W which is a value 4′ tube rated at 50,000 at a lower cost.
Many of these GE Type A LED T8 lamps have been in the market for a few years. In turn this is also a good way to convert Type A systems that are already utilizing these lamps to Type C once the ballast dies out, simply replacing with the Hybrid LED drivers.
